Ramadan is a holy month for Muslims during which they keep fasting and stay away from drinking, sexual activities and other activities which are considered to be sin in the eyes of Allah. It is believed that during the month of Ramadan the holy book Quran was revealed to Prophet Muhammad. Muslims pray to Allah by reciting Ramadan dua and visit mosque through out the month. It is believed that during Ramadan the gates of heaven stay open and the gates hell remain closed.
Ramadan begins with the sighting of the crescent moon, but some Muslims insist on using the calculated time of the moon as the new moon is not in the same state globally. Usually Ramadan dates varies from countries to countries by as day or two. And when the crescent moon is visible again at the end of the month, then Eid-ul-Fitr is celebrated.
Actually the Islamic colander is 13days shorter then the solar calendar therefore it is difficult to say whether the Ramadan dates of 2009 will be similar to the Ramadan dates of 2010 or not. Ramadan basically falls in the ninth month of Islamic calendar. If the crescent moon is seen at night then the next day is the first day of Ramadan. Generally Ramadan continues for 29 to 30 days.
Lailatul Qadr (the night of power)
The 27th day Ramadan month is said to be the night of power. On this day Muslims pray to Allah the whole night.
